Flexible Learning Year school districts plan for future
Officials with 25 school districts in southwest Minnesota are preparing a second application for the Flexible Learning Year, a collaborative effort to improve student achievement and teacher effectiveness.
The 2010-2011 school year was the first for the program, which required approval from the state Department of Education.

MORE AUDIO: Fisher says there is significant interest in professional staff development.
EVEN MORE: While student test scores did not improve as much as they had anticipated, Fisher says the group of schools have taken their time in developing the program.
Participating school districts in the Flexible Learning Year start the academic year in late August, as opposed to the more traditional day after Labor Day.
The consortium of Flexible Learning Year districts in southwest Minnesota involves approximately 16,000 students and 1,200 teachers.
