Jackson man receives 25 years for killing brother

A Jackson man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Tuesday for the June 2010 murder of his brother at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield.

A jury in Mankato found TyRon Collins guilty of two counts of second-degree murder on Oct. 28, 2011. Collins was sentenced for intentional second-degree murder, the more serious of the two offenses.

Collins was arrested June 10, 2010 for stabbing his brother, Kenneth Collins at Colonial Manor, where Kenneth Collins was employed.

The trail was moved to Blue Earth County in order to ensure a fair trial. Prior to sentencing, Assistant Jackson County Attorney Sherry Haley read two victim impact statements from Kenneth Collins' family members.
